All about Hu: China's president dominates state media coverage in run-up to Beijing Olympics

BEIJING (AP) - China's President Hu Jintao is dominating
state media coverage in the run-up to next month's Beijing
Olympics.

The entire front page of the Communist Party's flagship
People's Daily newspaper and most other party-controlled
papers was devoted to Hu's attendance at the G-8 summit in
Japan, while coverage of his activities there filled the
bulk of the state television's main noon news broadcast.

The usually low-key and conservative Hu has taken on an
increasingly prominent media profile in recent weeks,
prompting speculation that his handlers felt threatened by
the popularity of Premier Wen Jiabao, who has all but
disappeared from reports.
