17.55 million live in Beijing, 30% migrants

Beijing's resident population grew to 17.55 million by the end of last year with migrants making up 30 percent of the community, according to the capital's census bureau, the Beijing News reported Friday.

The latest figure was calculated from sampling and the next municipal census will kick off this year which the agency said would employ up to 100,000 census takers.

The recruitment will start in July and eligible applicants should pass high school education or above.
