Chinese University honours University of Newcastle professor

Professor Graham Goodwin from the University of Newcastle, Australia was recently honoured as a Distinguished Professor by Zhengzhou University – Henan Province.

Professor Goodwin said “Zhengzhou University is one of China’s most prestigious institutions. It has an established high quality teaching system and outstanding scientific research. The university consists of 43 schools and departments and 5 affiliated hospitals, covering 11 disciplines: science, technology, art, medicine, literature, history, philosophy, law, economics, management, agriculture and education.

At present, the enrolled number of full-time students is over 36,000 with 6,639 graduate students and 342 international students. It is thus a great privilege to be appointed a Distinguished External Professor. The appointment was confirmed by Professor Shen Chang-yu (President of Zhengzhou University) during my recent visit to Zhengzhou on June 2, 2009. The appointment implies that the University of Newcastle will have closer cooperation with Chinese researchers in coming years.”

Professor Goodwin is recognised as one the most influential engineering researchers in the world for his work on control engineering systems and signal processing. He is currently Laureate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Newcastle, Australia and is Director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Complex Dynamic Systems and Control.
